The Cebu Chinese Consulate is now being protected by the Cebu City police in Lorente street near Fuente Osmena road due to the dispute between the Republic of China and the government of the Philippines with regard to the Spratley Islands and Scarborough.
The mayor of Cebu Michael Rama stated that the Filipino-Chinese businessmen in Cebu express fears about militants spark protests in front of the Consulate.
Rama said:
“They probably heard of plans by some militant groups to hold demonstrations in the area like what is now happing in Luzon. I will have to talk to the city police chief on the matter.”
